How to Keep your Travel Backpack Clean and Tidy

To keep your bag looking its best and to prolong its life, you should clean your travel bag as often as possible.
Before each trip, you should take your bag out of storage and inspect it to make certain it is ready for another adventure. Thoroughly inspect your travel backpack for any damage and see if repairs are needed before you leave. All travel backpack can bring back some unwanted bacteria, so it is good practice to give it a proper cleaning before and after each trip.

Heavy cleaning
If your bag is used for wilderness treks or travelling, they may have to have a more comprehensive cleaning process. Ideally, these cleanings are frequent to keep the bag clean and free of odour and bacteria. Completely disassemble your bag, remove all contents and loose items, and open all pockets. Fill a tub with warm water and liquid laundry soap and give the bag a good cleaning. Rinse with plenty of water. Hang to dry for several days before re-assembly.
Here are the steps on how you can wash your backpack:
- First, remove everything from your backpack, shoulder straps, and removable bottoms, and open all the pockets.
- Next, fill a tub or sink with cool water and add a mild detergent.
- Gently scrub the outside and inside of your backpack with a soft cloth.
You can use hospital-grade wipes (without bleach) to remove small stains during your travels.
